Conferences and trade shows: the land of endless handshakes, promotional handouts, and networking opportunities galore. Whether you’re a seasoned attendee or a first-timer, there’s always something new to learn and experiences to share. We’ve tapped into the wealth of knowledge from industry veterans to bring you a treasure trove of insights and advice for making the most out of your conference experiences.

Making a lasting impression at one of our conferences doesn’t have to involve a hard sell pitch or a flashy gimmick. According to Sasha Boerma, Head of Casino and Affiliates, White Label Casinos, “Being open, personable, and asking questions to learn from people is key.” But sometimes, even the best-laid plans can go awry. JADE Entertainment & Gaming, CEO, Joe Pisano seconds this thought, reminding us to “be genuine and approach every conversation with interest, you are there to network with peers, not to sell products.” Those who know Joe, know this is definitely a man well-versed in building lasting relationships!

Finding the Balance: Learning, Networking, and Bleisure

Gaming events are a whirlwind of activities, from insightful sessions to those entertaining networking events and everything in between. Finding the right balance is crucial for success. Joe highlights the importance of pacing yourself and being prepared for round-the-clock engagement. “Be prepared for 24/7 learning, networking, and partying,” he says. But don’t forget to carve out time for some rest and self-care amidst the hustle and bustle. Although, having a good time is non-negotiable.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s essential to find those moments to “reset”. Christina Thakor-Rankin, Principal Consultant, 1710 Gaming Ltd, learned this lesson the hard way after attending back-to-back sessions and realising she had mistaken the conference planner for her notebook. “I guess that’s what happens when you don’t take time to breathe”. Those who have been privileged enough to watch Tina in action, know she is a master at networking and keeps herself engaged throughout an event. It’s important to remember to take time and look after yourself, as Stefan Muehlbauer from Affpal adds, the importance of making “time to eat in peace.” We agree Stefan! Stefan further added, “need good nutrition and often we eat bad sandwiches or don’t eat at all and run just on coffee”, even though we like to think that caffeine will keep us fueled.

Tools and Techniques for Conference Enhancement

In today’s digital world, there’s no shortage of tools and technologies to enhance your conference experience. Stefan recommends leveraging instant messaging and CRM systems for seamless follow-ups post-event. “The proper use of CRM systems to keep track of the show leads is key,” he suggests. But let’s not forget the timeless charm of a good old-fashioned notebook and pen—perfect for jotting down those brilliant ideas… or doodling during particularly boring sessions.
Although it can be daunting approaching total strangers, that’s what we are here to do right? We like to keep Sasha’s key takeaway, “ABC (Always Be Connecting),” in the back of our minds.

Unique Must-Haves and Travel Tips

Aside from the usual business cards, conference-goers swear by unique must-pack items that make life easier on the conference circuit. From comfortable shoes (As event organisers we have seen our fair share of day 3 limps) to power banks, these essentials ensure you’re always prepared for whatever the event throws your way. And when it comes to combating jet lag, arriving a day early and sticking to local time can work wonders.

Icebreakers and Networking Nuggets

Networking can be a minefield of awkward introductions and forced small talk if you’re not a natural. But fear not! Viktoria Soltesz, Founder & CEO, PSP Angels Group, suggests finding common ground by sharing experiences and insights from previous events. “Talking about your shared experiences of previous events… can be a great way to find common ground,” she advises. And if all else fails, there’s always the classic icebreaker: “So, what’s the deal with airline food?”

Lessons Learned and Cultural Insights

Reflecting on their conference journeys, industry veterans share valuable lessons and cultural insights. From paying it forward to being selective about event attendance, these nuggets of wisdom offer guidance for navigating the conference landscape with confidence and grace. When attending one of Eventus International’s demographically different locations, don’t hesitate to lean on locals for insider tips and recommendations.

We like to keep a piece of advice close to our hearts, as Swintt’s Head of Business Development, Lars Kollind,  to “Never underestimate the value of any conversation you have at a conference! iGaming is such a fast-moving industry that you often won’t know the person you’re talking to or who they might become, so it’s really important that you treat all interactions equally. You never know when you’re going to cross paths with someone again and yesterday’s intern can easily become tomorrow’s CEO, so be sure to show respect if you want to get it from others in future.”

Our events are more than just business gatherings—they’re essential opportunities for growth, connection, and laughter. By embracing these insights and tips, you’ll be well-equipped to level up your boutique event navigation skills.
