A man has been arrested on killing and robbery crimes after supposedly killing a man in a hotel room in Cotai over financial disputes. The 44-year-old mainland Chinese man has been titled as the murderer subsequent the detection of a man’s body in a hotel room of The Parisian Macao – the Macau Judiciary Police (PJ) received the report on 04, May 2023 at 5:42pm Thursday afternoon.

After arriving at the place, Judiciary Police quickly investigated the scene, to begin with seeing that the deceased had lacerations to his head and resulting that the cause of death was “suspicious”. Later, they finalized forensics at the scene and took a man away from the hotel at 11:00pm. Initial info was that the deceased is a native of mainland China, according to ASGAM.

Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ) said Friday morning that the suspect in a homicide committed in a Cotai hotel room has been detained in mainland China. The suspect was arrested late Thursday night after run away by flying back to the mainland, with Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ) and Public Security Police Force revealing the case was initiated by an argument over money.

A Judiciary Police spokesperson told media on Friday that the victim – also a Chinese national – died from “suffocation resulting from an act of violence”.

According to the information out at a press conference on Friday afternoon, the 27-year-old victim and the arrested suspect were recognized to each other and were booking their staying at the same hotel room. The victim arrived the room where the murder took place on Wednesday night and the suspect entered the room at 5am on Thursday morning, exit two hours later with luggage.

A preliminary investigation publicized that the suspect had an argument over money with the victim in the room, before murdered him and stealing his cash, plus taking his mobile phone and a gold ring. He then fled via Qing Mao Port.

The mainland Chinese man is said to have fled Macau in the early hours of Thursday morning; however, Macau authorities informed their mainland counterparts of the suspect’s identity and he was detained soon afterwards.

The PJ received a report of the incident at about 5pm on Thursday, inspected, and speedily identified the suspect before alerting mainland police. At 11pm, mainland police arrested the suspect in Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province.

The suspect admitted to assaulting the deceased upon arrest, but rejected to give details of the subsequent incident.

Police found that the deceased was a “money exchange gang member” and was carrying HK$170,000 in cash. The suspect is said to have used a water bottle to attack the victim, causing a 2cm laceration to the head, after which he proceeded to choke the victim with his hands.

The accused has been charged with homicide, aggravated homicide and robbery.
