A Florida mother who used all her life savings to support her daughter who was identified with breast cancer turn into a millionaire after winning a scratch-off ticket. 

The woman who spends her life reserves for her daughter’s treatment won P109 million from a scratch-off ticket at a lottery—just one day next the latter officially won her battle against the disease. 

On Friday, April 7, Geraldine Gimblet of Lakeland took the top prize from the $2,000,000 bonus cashword scratch-off game at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee, according to the Florida Lottery report.

Geraldine Gimblet, of Lakeland, Florida — about 36 miles from Tampa — bought her $2 million Bonus Cashword ticket from a gas station in the city, according to the Florida Lottery.

“At first the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best. He found the last one,” the woman said as she replied to her great win.

In CASHWORD, players are given 20 letters and three separate games, where they must match three or more words in each game with their letters and win the cash prize listed, with the chance of doubling it with a “MONEYBAG” symbol.

“The $10 game, $2,000,000 BONUS CASHWORD, launched in May and features eight top prizes of $2 million and 20 second-tier prizes of $100,000!” the Florida Lottery said in a news release. “The game’s overall odds of winning are one-in-3.12.”

Finding out about the incredible news brought the daughter, whose name was not publicly disclosed, to tears of joy, as she said,

“The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer. My mom had taken out her life savings to take care of me when I was sick. I’m just so happy for her!” added Gimblet’s daughter, who go together with her as she asks for her prize. Gimblet’s daughter said it was her last day of treatment when it happened.

Gimblet claimed her prize from lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on Friday with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She decided to take the lump sum option of $1,645,000.

Moreover, Florida Lottery added that Pipkin Road Beverage Castle, which sold the ticket to the winner, also got a $2,000 (P109,000) bonus.

Scratch-off games are considered an important part of the Florida Lottery’s portfolio of games and have reportedly garnered more than $17.69B for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF), the company mentioned in a statement.
